Directions: The visitor center and refuge headquarters are located near the Dumbarton Bridge toll plaza. Take the Thornton Avenue exit from Highway 84 and follow the signs. The Environmental Education Center is located in the Alviso District of San Jose from Highway 237, go N on Zanker Road, then W on Grand Boulevard.

Primary Wildlife: Five endangered species: California brown pelican, California clapper rail, California least tern, peregrine falcon, and salt marsh harvest mouse. Migratory waterfowl and shorebirds. Harbor seals. Saltwater fishes including striped bass, surfperch, sturgeon, starry flounder, leopard shark, topsmelt, and anchovy.

Habitat: Over 18,000 acres of estuarine habitat, including uplands, open water, mudflats, salt ponds, and salt marshes.

Recreation and Education: Visitor Center, interpretive programs, and educational programs. Environmental Education Center for classes and groups: open by reservation only. Wildlife observation, study, and photography. Trails. Saltwater fishing from piers and shore. Waterfowl hunting. Volunteer program. Quarterly newsletter. San Francisco Bay Wildlife Society, a nonprofit cooperative association.
