San Gorgonio WildernessLocated in the San Bernardino National Forest in California. The 58,700-acre San Gorgonio Wilderness lies in the summit region of the San Gorgonio Mountain Range. The area is characterized by well timbered northern slopes, small meadows and two small lakes. Vegetation within the area varies from desert to alpine flora and fauna. The area is very rough and rugged. Water is scarce. Elevations within the wilderness range from 4,500 to 11,499 feet. Groups are limited to 15 people. Wood fires are allowed only at designated sites. Wood fires are prohibited in the South Fork Travel Zone. Portable stoves are recommended. Quotas are in effect for all travel zones.
