Hiking - Big Bear District Trails

Champion Lodgepole Trail - 1W11 (0.3 mile, easy walk)
This is a theme trail that begins at the end of FS Road 2N11 and terminates at the Champion Lodgepole Pine. It is one of the largest known Lodgepoles in California. From Mill Creek Road take FS Road 2N10 for 4.5 miles, turn right on 2N11 - 1 mile to trailhead on right.

Siberia Creek Trail - 1W04 (7 miles, difficult)
This trail begins near the end of the Lodgepole trail, 1W11. It can be reached by using the Lodgepole Pine Trail or the Bluff Mesa Trail, 1W16. The Siberia Creek Trail terminates at Bear Creek near the Siberia Creek Group Camp. The upper portion of the trail parallels Siberia Creek for about 3/4 mile. The trail is recommended. for casual hikers to a point called"The Gunsight," which is 1 1/2 miles from the parking lot at FS Road 2N11. Only strong hikers should continue down to Siberia Creek, an elevation change of approximately 3000 feet. Round trip from 2N11 to "The Gunsight" would take the average family approximately 2 hours.

Camp Creek National Recreation Trail - 1W09 (3.6 miles, difficult)
This trail begins approximately 1 mile east of Snow Valley Ski Area and terminates at Bear Creek. It is a very steep trail with an elevation change of 2,000 feet.

Bluff Mesa Trail - 1W16 (0.4 mile, easy walk)
This trail starts at the Champion Lodgepole Pine and runs in a northerly direction, terminating at Bluff Mesa Group Camp. It is an easy hike for families through stands of large Jeffrey pine.

Castle Rock Trail - 1 W03 (0.8 mile, difficult hike)
Access to this trail is from FS Road 2N86 about 100 yards west of FS Road 2N10 or from Highway 18. about 1 mile east of the Big Bear Lake dam. From 2N86 the trail runs northward for .8 mile to Castle Rock, a large rock steeped in Bear Valley folklore. From Highway 18 the trail climbs uphill to Castle Rock, a distance of about 1/2 mile and elevation gain of about 500 feet. The trail is rich in scenery and is especially colorful in the summer and fall. It is an easy hike from 2N86.

Glory Ridge Trail - 1W02 (1 mile, difficult)

Pineknot Trail - 1E01 (3 miles, moderately difficult)
This trail begins at the northeast corner of the Aspen Glen Picnic area and runs generally in a southerly direction to Grand View Point. The first 1/4 mile has heavy equestrian traffic. Views of Big Bear Lake can be enjoyed through timber stands of white fir and Jeffrey pine. The serious hiker could make a round trip in about 3 hours, while a family could spend the better part of a day with lunch at Grand View Point.
