Pikes Peak Approaches: Bottomless Pit Trail Approach II

From Manitou Springs Trailhead
: 17.2 miles, 4,940 feet
From Barr Camp: 6.0 miles, 1,480 feet

You can use this approach to reach the technical routes on Pikes' north face. Bottomless Pit, the dramatic bowl below the north face, can be reached by a long trail hike. Start at the Manitou Springs Trailhead and follow the Barr Trail for 5.6 miles to Barr Camp at 10,200 feet. Continue on the Barr Trail for an additional 1.0 mile to the prominent switchback at 10,830 feet. Leave the Barr Trail and climb gently around Pikes' broad northeast slopes on the Bottomless Pit Trail for 2.0 miles into the Pit at 11,640 feet.
