Nicolet National ForestAround the Forest
Chequamegon National Forest is the only other National Forest in Wisconsin. It lies more north-central than does Nicolet, but it offers similar forest vegetation and a wide variety of recreational opportunities. Located west of Nicolet is Northern Highland American Legion State Forest, where you can view some of Wisconsin's endangered wildlife. Menominee Indian Reservation is located to Nicolet's direct south. To the north lies the Michigan border. Crossing this line will bring you to Ottawa National Forest as well as to several of Michigan's state forests. Great Lakes Superior and Michigan are a car ride away. From Nicolet, the trip by car to Green Bay can be made in about a couple of hours. Chicago, Illinois, is located approximately six hours southeast.
