Vegas, baby. In a word, this city is all about excess—over-the-top gambling, shows, drinking, and architecture. Where else would you find hotels that replicate New York, Paris, and ancient Rome? Go ahead, get caught up in the craziness—just don't go so nuts that you end up using a drive-thru wedding chapel.

When you manage to pull yourself away from the glitz of the Strip, start by taking a hike! Find outdoor adventure on the trails of southern Nevada, less than an hour from Sin City. The peace of the desert will seem like a long-awaited oasis after the madness of Las Vegas. Head toward the California border to experience the wild extremes of elevation and climate in Death Valley National Park. Or take a few days and escape north to the high-mountain country of Toiyabe National Forest.
