Mark Twain National Forest

The Forest has more than 350 miles of streams suitable for floating with canoes, kayaks, rafts, and inner tubes. Some, such as the St. Francis on the Potosi-Fredericktown Ranger District, have seasonal whitewater but may be too shallow for floating most of the year.

Floating offers close-up views of rocky bluffs, caves, springs, vegetation, birds, and other wildlife. A major attraction is the abundance of clear spring-fed streams with their floating and canoeing opportunities. The Big Pine, Current, North Fork, St. Francis, Black and Huzzah Rivers also offer floating opportunities on the Forest. The Meramec, Current, and Eleven Point rivers offer good canoeing opportunities. And don't overlook the Ozark National Scenic Riverway, which protects the corridors for the Current and Jack Fork Rivers. While not in the forest, the riverway lies between the Salem/Potosi and Doniphan/Eleven Point ranger districts.
