Hiking

The Mark Twain has hundreds of miles of trails, including over 300 completed miles of the 500-mile Ozark Trail. The trail begins near St. Louis, Missouri, and winds over federal, state, and private lands to the Arkansas border. Plans are being made to connect the Missouri section with the 200-mile Ozark Highlands Trail in Arkansas. The forest has three National Recreation Trails: 24-mile Berryman Trail in the Potosi Ranger District, 5-mile Crane Lake Trail in the Fredericktown Ranger District, and the 22-mile Ridge Runner Trail in the Willow Springs Ranger District. All seven wildernesses have hiking trails.
