Mammoth Cave National ParkHiking
You can divide the surface of Mammoth Cave National Park into three sections: the North Side, the South Side, and the Visitor Center Area. The North Side is the largest region and home to the park's backcountry trails and twelve backcountry shelters. The South Side and Visitor Center Area sport shorter trails that make good day walks and great introductions to the park's natural beauties. Visitor Center Area Trails From the Visitor Center picnic area, the Green River Bluffs Trail is an easy walk to some great views of the Green River and its environs. The Heritage Trail can be done as an audio guided tour with tapes you can borrow from the Visitor Center. Designed especially for wheelchair access, the trail takes you to a beautiful overlook and the Old Guides' Cemetery. The trails near the Visitor Center are some of the best places to view the unusual karst topographical features indigenous to cave country.
