10. Big Spring Lodge and Cabins, Ozark National Scenic Riverways, Missouri
Located four miles south of the small Missouri town of Van Buren, Big Spring Lodge and Cabins offers a peaceful place to fish, canoe, hike, and relax in the scenic Ozark Mountains. Situated in a thick hardwood forest, the 14 cabins were constructed in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration. The cabins of varying size with hardwood floors and a private screened porch sit on a hillside above the Current River, one of the park's two Class II streams offering 134 miles of excellent canoeing and tubing. Most of the cabins have a full kitchen and a fireplace. An attractive restaurant sits on a bluff overlooking the Current River. Season: mid-March through November; Rates: $65 to $120 per night depending on cabin size.
