Getting There:
From Denver, take I-70 west to the U.S. 40 exit. Take U.S. 40 west to Granby, then take U.S. 34 north through Grand Lake. The trailhead is 3.5 miles past Grand Lake on U.S. 34.

This moderate trail through wildflowers and thick lodgepole pines is perfect for your young backpacker's first adventure. The primitive campsites are less than three miles from the trailhead.
The Onahu Creek trailhead is separated from the Green Mountain Trailhead by just a half mile of road. Together, they form a 6.8 mile loop.
Follow Onahu Creek upstream through a thick forest to the primitive campsites and you're ready to set up camp.
In the morning, follow the Onahu Creek Trail north around a ridge, then back south to the junction with Tonahutu Creek Trail. Continue for less than a mile through a big meadow. Turn right on the Green Mountain Trail and follow it back to U.S. 34.
