Hurricane force winds, intense thunderstorms, below freezing temperatures, snow and ice storms, and those cherished idyllic days regularly occur in the Guadalupe Mountains. Seasonal Conditions
Winter
Expect some snow and rainfall and cold temperatures. Mild, cool days are the norm. Infrequent snow accumulations of three to six inches may occur November through February.
Spring
High winds are common in early spring with gusts of 75 miles per hour and higher. Late spring begins the warming trend.
Summer
Locally severe thunderstorms and possible flash flooding may occur. Moderate to warm air temperatures.
Fall
Crisp clear days, possible cold nights and high winds.
About the high winds
The winds at Guadalupe Mountains National Park can be dangerous at times. Trucks have been blown off Highway 62-180 during high winds. Hurricane force winds are common during early spring. Winds can be high during stormy weather year-round. Please use caution and common sense if you experience high winds during your visit.
