Take on the Tetons

Where the buffalo roam

One of the routes you'll want to ride follows the west bank of the Snake River for about 15 miles on an unpaved gravel road. If you have your own vehicle, park it at Jenny Lake and unload the bikes. If you have flown in to Jackson Airport without bikes, rent some in town and get a ride to where you want to start.

If you missed seeing bison on any of the earlier rides, you will likely see some grazing on this section. If you start at Moose, head north on Teton Park Road and turn right onto River Road about three miles from town.

You will ride east for about a mile, then gradually turn to the north before reaching the bank of the Snake River. If you choose to come to Jackson in early June, you may catch the cottonwoods shedding their seeds in a display that looks like the snow has returned. But then again, it's not all that unlikely you will see a flake or two, even in early June—after all, you're still well over a mile above sea level, and a glance at the mountains surrounding you will be a constant reminder of the region's cold nature.
