Gadget Lover's GuidePelican Products VersaBrite
The VersaBrite flashight is aptly named. The compact body, adjustable head, dimmable light, and versatile mounting system make this flashlight useful in virtually any outdoor situation or endeavor. Power derives from two AA batteries that sit side-by-side in the black-plastic body of the light. The light fixture is contained in the head of the unit, which is attached to the battery pack by a pivot pin, allowing it to be swiveled nearly 300 degrees. A strong spring-clip attaches the light to just about anythingshirt pocket, hat brim, book cover, tent flap, etc. The light is also packaged with an elastic arm/headband to which the light can be attached. I've used the VersaBrite as a headlamp when hiking. I've clipped to my vest when flyfishing to help me tie flies to a leader at twilight. When arriving it camp after dark, I clip the light to the edge of my pack to illuminate the inside of the pack bag for easy retrieval of various items. It serves as the ideal reading light when laying in a sleeping bag in a dark tent. By setting it on my chest, I can aim the light into my open book, allowing me to read without the light bothering my tentmate. The options are endless. A bright xenon bulb delivers nearly 6,000 candlepower of light without excessive battery usethe light will burn for more than 6 hours at under normal use (i.e., not at extreme low temperatures). The VersaBrite is also compact at 3 inches long, 1.75 inches wide, and 1.9 inches thick. It weighs just 7 ounces, which is less than a machined-aluminum pen-style light.
