Directions
Denali Park's headquarters is located along Alaska Route 3, the George Parks Highway, approximately 240 miles north of Anchorage, 125 miles south of Fairbanks, and 12 miles south of Healy. Denali Park's mountaineering headquarters is located in Talkeetna, approximately 100 miles north of Anchorage.

Transportation

To Park
Denali is accessible by car or via the Alaska Railroad from either Anchorage or Fairbanks. In summer a variety of private bus and van services and the railroad operate daily from Anchorage and Fairbanks.

In Park
The Denali Park Road is accessible by private vehicle for 14.8 miles to the Savage River Bridge. Shuttle and tour bus services are available to travel to destinations farther into the park, including the Eielson Visitor Center. Bicycles are permitted along the Park Road.

Climate & Clothing
Most visitors come here between late May and mid-September. Summer is cool, wet, and windy, and snow can occur. Bring clothing for temperatures from 350 degrees F to 750 degrees F. Unpredictable weather in May, early June, and mid-September may change the opening and closing of park roads and facilities.

What to Wear: Be prepared for hiking in cool, wet, and windy weather. Wear sturdy shoes with firm ankle support, thick socks, and warm, layered clothing. A hat, mittens, or gloves, and rain gear are essential. Sturdy foot gear, insect repellent, binoculars, and a camera are desirable.

Camping & Lodging
Riley Creek, Savage River, and Teklanika River campgrounds are accessible by private vehicle. Sanctuary River, Igloo Creek, and Wonder Lake campgrounds—tents only—are accessible by bus. You must register in person for all park campgrounds at the Visitor Center. Camping in the park campgrounds (one or several) is limited to a total of 14 days. You may register for your stay up to two days in advance. Camping is prohibited in parking areas and on roadsides. Morino Campground is for visitors arriving without vehicles (backpackers, train passengers, and private pilots). Organized groups may obtain space at Savage River Groups Campground by making advance reservations.

Visitors can stay at private lodges within the park. Camp Denali is Denali's original lodge, now a family-owned facility with great views of Mount McKinley. Denali Backcountry Lodge is a wilderness lodge located at the end of the 95 mile park road.

The National Park Service-operated hotel near the entrance is slated to be closed. The park is encouraging private development outside the park.
