Chiseled into the corner of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests, this little valley packs 25 miles of trail into 2,600 acres—not bad for a protected national park. One of only a handful of legal places to go off-roading in the Peach State, Houston offers some of the best-maintained trails in the state and classic wild woods laced with cool streams. The national forest itself is a wonder with its vast variety of forests, wetlands, and lowlands. Spend a day spraying up dirt, jumping creeks, and dodging snakes as you tear your way through the comparatively pleasant woods. The area is easily accessible by Interstate 75—call the Armuchee Ranger Station for directions and watch out for the wetlands.
