Winter in Utah's Red Rock Country

Bryce Canyon National Park

Cross-country skiing and snowmobiling are popular at Bryce Canyon National Park, which lies at elevations of 7,000 feet and more. Skiers can ski in the pine forest along the rim of the canyon or drop into some of the spectacular rock formations below the trees.

There are plenty of hikes or snowshoe treks available, too. Visitors may take a 37-mile round-trip drive to Bryce's most famous viewpoints, including Sunrise, Sunset, Rainbow, Yovimpa, and Inspiration Points.

Although it's not actually in Bryce Canyon, snowmobilers will want to check out the Cedar Mountain-East Fork snowmobile complex, a series of trails maintained by the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation. High mountain trails provide winter access to views of the red rock country, including the spires and pinnacles of Bryce Canyon and the multi-hued amphitheater of Cedar Breaks National Monument. Contact Utah Division of Parks and Recreation, 1636 W. North Temple St., Salt Lake City, UT 84116, (801) 538-7220, for maps of the area.
