Black Hills National Forest Cross-Country Skiing Overview

Cross-country skiers will enjoy over 70 miles of trails, some groomed by local ski clubs. In the higher northern hills, annual snowfall can reach 180 inches. Three trail systems stand out. Eagle Cliff Trails is a self-guided loop system that was originally developed for cross-country skiing. The Big Hills Trails is a 16-mile system of five easy to moderate loops and a spur to the rim of Spearfish Canyon. And it's hard to beat the Bear Mountain Trails, 16 miles of breathtaking views and wildlife.

Centennial Trail111 miles. A landmark trail that stretches across the north-south length of the Black Hills.
George S. Mickelson114 miles. Rail trail from Deadwood to Edgewood. Gentle grades.
Bearlodge Trails50.3 miles. Home of the annual Fat-tire Biking Challenge for mountain bikers.
Deerfield & Lake Loop Trail28 miles. Gentle trails through scenic canyons.
