Rapid City, South Dakota, is the transportation hub for the Black Hills National Forest. Major airlines and bus routes serve the area.

U.S. Interstate 90 is the major east/west road for the area. U.S. 85/385 serves as the north/south connector to the rest of the world. U.S. Highway 16 runs east/west through the forest between Newcastle, Wyoming, and Highway 385.
