Fitzroy Range, Argentina
Jagged little hill: Hike the Fitzroy Range

It's for climbers and casual hikers alike: In the northern sector of Parque Nacional Los Glaciares, the Fitzroy Range has sheer vertical spires to match Chile's Torres del Paine. But even if you're not one of the world's top ten technical climbers, trails from the town of Chaltin to the base of summits like Fitzroy and Cerro Torre make for some of the most satisfying hiking in the Southern Hemisphere. You'll even find opportunities for crossing the rugged southern Patagonian icefields (bring a guide or have first-rate mountaineering experience). Visitors looking for a more sedate outdoor experience will find a handful of former sheep estancias, onetime Patagonian wool producers that have reinvented themselves as the Argentine equivalent to North American dude ranches. These range from simple B&B-style accommodations to luxurious lodgings that provide a variety of outdoor activities for their guests.
