Get a taste of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid from their Patagonian days. In a basin between parallel mountain ranges in Rmo Negro province, about an hour and a half south of Bariloche, the counterculture village of El Bolssn is ideally situated for at least half a dozen great day hikes, including 7,414-foot Cerro Piltriquitron, which offers stunning views of the entire Andean front range that forms the border between Argentina and Chile. Only 20 minutes south is Parque Nacional Lago Puelo, which offers an adventurous, rarely traveled overland route into Chile, while another hour via a smooth paved highway is where to find a cabin built by those two American cowboys.
