Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest

Camping is permitted in nearly all areas of the forests. At several heavily used locations (Lee Valley Reservoir, Greer Lakes, Woods Canyon Lake, and Big Lake) camping in the area is restricted to campgrounds. There are more than 800 developed family camp and picnic units on the forests.

The rules and regulations (copies available from Forest Service offices) posted in developed recreation sites are basically common sense rules meant to prevent disturbance to visitors and protect sites. Visitors may stay up to 14 days in any one location within the forests.

The operation and maintenance of some campgrounds are under contract to the private sector. Fees are charged in some developed areas to assist in the maintenance of facilities. Visitors 62 years of age or older are eligible for a 50 percent discount on some fees through the Golden Age Passport program. The Golden Age Passport available at Forest Service offices must be obtained in person and proof of age provided.

Wherever you decide to camp, keep in mind that other visitors will use the site later. Please leave the area in as good or better condition than when you arrived.

Picnickers are welcome throughout the forests. Where fees are charged for camping they also apply to picnicking. However, no overnight camping fees are charged in day-use only areas.
