Sheep Mountain WildernessLocated in the Angeles and San Bernardino National Forests in California. The 42,400-acre Sheep Mountain Wilderness is characterized by extremely rugged terrain. Mt. Baldy, at 10,064 feet, is the highest peak in the San Gabriel Mountains. Mt. Baden Powell at 9,399 feet is the second highest peak in the wilderness. The East Fork of the San Gabriel River, Prairie Fork and Upper Lytle Creek flow in the area. Vegetation includes chaparral, mountain forest and southern mixed evergreen forest. Wildlife includes Nelson bighorn sheep, deer, coyote, bear and mountain lion. Visitor permits are required. Several trails lead into this area including the East Fork Trail from San Gabriel Canyon.
