San Gabriel Wilderness

Located in the Angeles National Forest in California.

The 36,100-acre San Gabriel Wilderness area is characterized by rough, rugged terrain covered with chaparral below 5,000 feet elevation and mixed pine and fir on ridgetops at higher elevations. Elevations within the wilderness range from 1,800 to 8,200 feet. The area provides good fishing opportunities.

Within the San Gabriel Wilderness, the Bear Creek Trail offers an 11-mile challenge to the experienced hiker. You can hike the trail from either end and have someone with a vehicle meet you. You can also hike into this wilderness from the Angeles Crest Highway on the Mt. Waterman or Devil's Canyon Trails.

No wood fires permitted due to the high fire danger present at all times of year. Portable stoves are permitted in the wilderness.
