Peru is the cradle of civilization in the Andes. Many cultures have come and gone. But even though a culture may have vanished, its influence tended to live on in myth, in continued traditions, and in evocative ruins.

Likewise, national borders come and go, and ancient Andean civilization extended past the boundaries of modern Peru, spreading into Bolivia in the east, and Chile and Ecuador in the south and north.
