Public Transportation

Bus: Vermont Transit bus service operates between Bangor and Bar Harbor during the summer months. Call 207-288-3366 for current information. Although the park operates no public transportation, Downeast Transportation runs a local service that connects Mount Desert Island towns and Ellsworth. Write to Downeast Transportation, P.O. Box 914, Ellsworth, ME 04605, or call 207-667-5796.

Local businesses operate bus tours through the park and scenic boat trips. The towns of Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, and Northeast Harbor have taxi service.

Air: Bangor International Airport is approximately 50 miles from Acadia.

For commuter air service, Colgan Air flies to Bar Harbor Airport, ten miles from Bar Harbor. Call 207-667-7171 for a schedule.

Car: Acadia National Park is located approximately six hours north of Boston. From Boston take I-95 north to Augusta, Maine; from Augusta take Route 3 east to Ellsworth and on to Mount Desert Island or take I-95 north to Bangor, Maine; from Bangor take Route 1A east to Ellsworth; from Ellsworth take Route 3 to Mount Desert Island.

Going to Nova Scotia?

The Bluenose Ferry sails between Bar Harbor and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Schedules vary depending on the season.
