Toppenish National Wildlife Refuge
Directions: Located 6 miles S of Toppenish on U.S. Highway 97, then 1 mile west from refuge sign.
Primary Wildlife: Numerous nesting waterfowl. Raptors and marsh birds including eagles, hawks, herons, gulls, egrets, and terns. Migration stop for large concentrations of shorebirds. Resting and feeding area for up to 30,000 migrating waterfowl.
Habitat: 1,763 acres of brushy creek bottoms, wet meadows, sage-brush uplands, and croplands located along Toppenish Creek.
Recreation and Education: Wildlife observation, study and photography. Observation points. Waterfowl and upland game bird hunting. Yakima Indian Nation Reservation. Permits are required for hunting since refuge lands are within Yakima Indian Nation Reservation. No camping permitted on refuge.
