Spring Mountains National Recreation Area

Welcome to the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area (SMNRA) of the Toiyabe National Forest! This is an area of surprising beauty and remarkable diversity. You'Il find there is a relaxing atmosphere to the Spring Mountains of Southern Nevada. No matter what one"s outdoor pleasure, the panoramic ranges provide a quick getaway, a haven of enjoyment and solitude, a true reward and a rare luxury for everyone living in today's fast-paced society.

The 316,000 acre SMNRA, popularly known as Mt. Charleston, is one of amazing geological and biological beauty. As a result, the Spring Mountains contain an astonishing variety of plant and animal species, many of which are endemic (found nowhere else in the world!). Help us protect these unique species by not picking wild flowers. The crowning glory -Charleston Peak -looms above at 11,918 feet, making it the third highest peak in Nevada.

Experience this special area with a visit to one of the many developed camp and picnic sites or a hike on over 50 miles of trails. Relax and enjoy.

Trails of Mount Charleston

Fragrant Ponderosa Pines' ancient Bristlecone trees, scampering squirrels, lyrical songbirds, and colorful wildflowers are just a few of the experiences that await your discovery.
