Sheldon National Wildlife Range
Directions: Located in NW Nevada about 50 miles NE of Cedarville, California, and 90 miles SE of Lakeview, Oregon. Highway 140 bisects the northern portion of the range. Some personnel stationed at Dufurrena on Highway 140, 30 miles W of Denio, Nevada. The range is inaccessible much of the winter.
Primary Wildlife: Established for the preservation of the pronghorn antelope. Also provides habitat for mule deer, California bighorn sheep, sage grouse, coyotes, bobcats, wild horses and burros, and numerous species of migratory birds.
Habitat: 575,813 acres of high desert wildlands. Occasional reservoirs and creeks.
Recreation and Education: Wildlife observation, study, and photography. Hunting. Limited fishing. Primitive camping facilities in designated areas.
