Sawtooth National Forest Highlights
- Sun Valley Trekking in Hailey operates six backcountry yurts in the Sawtooth National Forest that are ideal destinations for snowshoers. Rentals and multi-day, guided trips are available.
- The entire Upper Big Wood River area surrounding the Galena Summit is off-limits to motorized use, making it a snowshoer's playground. Set out from the Galena Lodge or the parking areas north of the Russian John Guard Station.
- To facilitate Nordic and snowshoe access in undeveloped areas, the Forest Service plows more than 40 turnouts along Highway 75 in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. Leave an itinerary before you venture out.
- Each year on a weekend in March, the Sawtooth Ski Club takes over trails near Stanley to host the popular Sawtooth Ski and Snowshoe Festival, complete with races, clinics, and huge group dinners.
