Three Landbird Hotspots

Sandy Point State Park, Maryland
Oriole
Orioles are nectar-loving birds.

At the western anchor of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge near Annapolis, Sandy Point State Park juts out into the northern bay from Maryland's Western Shore. Especially on days with strong west winds, the point acts as a landbird trap, concentrating songbirds in the park's old oaks, pines and shrubbier woodlands. Take I-95 to Route 50 East; go 26.5 miles to the last exit before the toll bridge. Turn left at the stop sign at the end of the exit ramp and follow the signs to the park. East Beach and South Beach are linked by a trail that cuts through marsh and has a low observation platform; other trails wind through the wooded sections of the park to the northwest.
