Ouachita National Forest Highlights

  • This national forest offers more than 4,000 miles of fishing streams and 1,600 acres of stillwater fishing. Also, forest land borders two large Army Corps of Engineers’ lakes.
  • Enjoy superlative scenery and good fishing on the Little Missouri. Portions of the river are designated as both a federal wild and scenic river and a state natural and scenic waterway. Smallmouth bass is the most sought after fish.
  • This national forest has more than 250 miles of trails open to horseback riders. Many of them are concentrated into trail complexes with varied route possibilities.
  • The Bear Creek trail complex offers 45 miles of paths spread over four loops. You’ll travel amid woods broken by views, including the vista from Powell Mountain tower site. Base out of Bear Creek Horse Camp.
