Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest Guide: Climbing
Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest Highlights
- On the northern approach to Mount Baker, the Coleman Route is the most popular route to the summit. It begins just three miles into the Heliotrope Ridge Trail, which starts in old growth forest then climbs its way through flower-filled avalanche chutes, over rocky moraines, and close to the edge of the Coleman Glacier.
- After Coleman, the Easton Glacier Route is the second most popular on the mountain. It can be very crowded at times. The trail begins in Schreiber's Meadow where it wanders through fields of heather and huckleberries.
- Want more time on the mountain? The Park Glacier climbing route, with base camp at Ptarmigan Ridge, is the longest climb of the northern approaches. The snow on this route does not melt until late in the season and the five-mile approach can be a long and difficult slog through heavy snow in steep chutes.
