Minnewaska State Park Preserve Overview

Directions: Located on Route 44/55, five miles west of the intersection of Route 299, near New Paltz, New York.

Minnewaska is managed by the Palisades Interstate Park Commission, and comprises approximately 12,000 acres of wild and scenic landscape on the Shawangunk ridge. Primarily a day-use area, an admission fee is charged. Clear streams, lakes, and 50 miles of carriageways and trails beckon visitors who love hiking, climbing and other outdoor activities. The views from Minnewaska are outstanding.

Park activities include bicycling, boating, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, picnicking, scuba diving, skiing, swimming and rock climbing. Seasonal events include ecology walks led by Minnewaska's Americorp Educator, nature hikes, and the Annual Shawangunk Ridge Hike. The 1998 October calendar included a Hawkwatch and the Fourth Annual Witches Cave Program. Rangers conduct wintertime programs on nature, workshops on safe and successful hunting, and more.
