Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge

Directions: Six miles southeast of Las Vegas, NM. From I-25, exit onto State Highway 104 at Exit 345. Drive E for 1.5 miles. Turn S on State Highway 281 and continue for 4 miles to refuge entrance.

Primary Wildlife: Provides wintering habitat for migratory birds, hawks, sandhill cranes, eagles, and waterfowl.

Habitat: 8,672 acres consisting of native grassland, cropland, marshes, ponds, forested canyons, and streams.

Recreation and Education: Wildlife observation and photography, fishing, limited hunting, and hiking (limited to a 0.5-mile trail or by permit only).

Special Note: Located in northern New Mexico where the Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains.
