Colorado's Hot Springs Heavens

Everyone's first question is, "So, where are the hot springs?" Answer: Not on this property. The only hot springs around are actually a few miles away in the tiny town of Hot Sulphur Springs, at Hot Sulphur Springs Mineral Baths and Motel. What you'll find instead at this wildlife area are rustic campsites next to a pristine stretch of the Colorado River, perfect for fishing, bird watching, some hunting, and relaxing. The sites are rugged and simple — and you probably won't have much company save for a few native riparian critters.

Location: East of Kremmling.

Directions: To reach the wildlife area from the town of Hot Sulphur Springs, drive three miles west on U.S. 40 to the Colorado River Bridge, then turn south at the east end of the bridge to reach the campsites. Or, continue another half mile past the bridge to access more campsites.

Campsites, facilities: Campsites are scattered throughout the property. Vault toilets and campfire rings are provided, but there are no other facilities. Leashed pets are permitted. The elevation is 7,800 feet.

Reservations: Reservations are not accepted. There is no fee and the campground is open year-round.
