Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge
Directions: From Dallas, go N on Highway 75 to Sherman FM 1417 exit, then N 13 miles on FM 1417 to refuge sign and left 6 miles to entrance. From US 82, turn N on Southmayd Road (4 miles W of Sadler) and 7.5 miles E of Sherman. Follow signs to office and Visitor Center.
Primary Wildlife: The Refuge serves the Tall Grass Prairie flock of Canada geese, snow, Ross', and white-fronted geese, and other migratory birds, including ducks, shorebirds, and colonial nesters.
Habitat: Lakeshore (Lake Texoma), ponds, and uplands prairies. Some excellent bottomland habitat.
Recreation and Education: Wildlife observation, fishing, limited hunting, hiking, interpretive trails, and tour routes.
Special Note: Extensive oil production co-exists with wildlife habitat. Hagerman townsite display N of office.
