Carter Caves State Resort Park
Carter Caves State Resort Park is home to more than 20 caverns winding beneath its forested hills. Sign up for a guided cave tour or hiking trip, or take a canoe trip down Tygart's Creek.
Cave Tours: Various lighted and unlighted cave tours are offered: Cascade Cave is exceptionally beautiful and features an underground waterfall over 30 feet high; X Cave is named for the shape of its passages and noted for many formations; Saltpetre Cave is tied to early Kentucky history; and Bat Cave (the largest cave in the park) is the winter home to thousands of rare bats and shown only during the summer. Special tours for beginning and experienced spelunkers are also scheduled. A fee is charged for tours.
Hiking Trails: Discover the aboveground beauty of Carter Caves on the 20 miles of wooded nature trails. Trails range from easy to difficult hiking level ability.
Fishing: Carter Caves Lake is Kentucky's only trophy bass lake. In addition to largemouth bass, anglers vie for bluegill, catfish, and crappie.
Getting There: Carter Caves is located 30 miles west of Ashland. Take I-64 to KY 182 N.
Accommodations
Caveland Lodge: This beautiful fieldstone lodge offers 28 rooms with full amenities.
Cottages: All cottages are under renovation until Summer 2000.
Camping: The campground features 89 campsites with utilities, a dump station, and two central service buildings with rest rooms and showers.
