Cane Creek State Park

The Cane Creek Project is a cooperative effort between the Department of Parks & Tourism, Arkansas Game & Fish Commission, and the United States Department of Agriculture - Soil Conservation Service (USDA - SCS). This is the largest Resource, Conservation, and Development (RC&D) project ever undertaken by the RC&D Council in the United States. On 2,053 acres of woodlands adjacent to the lake, Cane Creek State Park uniquely sits on the border of two major natural divisions of Arkansas.... the West Gulf Coastal Plain and the Mississippi Alluvial Plain, also known as  "The Delta. " The park lies within the "Coastal Plain" and is characterized by a series of deep draws and steeply sloping ridges. The 1,675-acre Arkansas Game & Fish Commission Lake lies in the "Delta."

Facilities

Camping - Located in a beautiful, wooded area near the lake are 30 campsites equipped with electrical hookups, water, table, grill, and a lantern hanger at each site, plus a modern bathhouse nearby. This first-class campground offers a pleasant camping experience year-round. A sanitary dump station is located near the park entrance.

NOTE: Campers must register at the Visitor Center before occupying a site. All sites are assigned; limited reservations available.

Picnicking - Overlooking the lake, the park's picnic area offers all the conveniences of tables, grills, water and nearby restrooms.

Group Pavilion - A covered, screened pavilion located in the picnic area may be rented for group outings or family reunions. The pavilion may be reserved by calling or writing the park. The pavilion must be reserved before being used (deposit and fee required).

Visitor Center - The park visitor center is the first stop for campers wishing to register for a campsite. The visitor center contains the park offices and includes a gift area and exhibits. The exhibits feature photographs and descriptions of the plants and wildlife within the two natural divisions on which the park is built, and includes historic photographs of the area.

Nature trail - Near the picnic area, this two-mile trail offers a beautiful, personal view of the natural environment of Cane Creek State Park.

Accessibility - All buildings are fully accessible, plus selected campsites, and picnic sites, and the two fishing piers are barrier-free.

Recreation

Fishing - Cane Creek Lake was opened for fishing in 1987 and quickly established itself as the fishing "hot spot" in southeast Arkansas. The shallow, timber-filled lake provides excellent habitat for warm-water fish including bass, crappie, sunfish, and bream. Lunker bass and full limits are common at Cane Creek Lake. The lake is accessible from the State Park via a free launch ramp; there is no charge for parking. Additionally, barrier-free fishing piers are available at the picnic area and at the south end of the park.

Other facilities - Stores, restaurants, service stations, and laundry are just minutes away in nearby towns.

Interpretive Services
Cane Creek State Park offers interpretive programs and guided walks when arranged in advance. Contact the park for details. Park staff can provide guided walks and special programs for school groups. Topics include the natural resources and physical characteristics of the two natural divisions on which the park is located, and the history of the park and area. Curriculum/basic skill-related field trips may be arranged when the park superintendent is notified well in advance of the visit.
