Hiking - Buffalo Gap Trail

Along this trail, visitors will see numerous panoramic views of the Ouachita National Forest and Buffalo Gap Mountain. Fall colors are at their best in October, while early April offers a scenic display of spring's greenery. Pick up your copy of the Buffalo Gap Auto Tour at the Jessieville Visitor Information Center or the Hot Springs City Visitor Information Center.

Other Opportunities: Camp, picnic and wade at Iron Springs or South Fourche Recreation Areas. For additional hiking opportunities try the Ouachita National Recreation Trail, Hunt's Loop, or the accessible Friendship Trail. Other mountain bike opportunities include Wildcat Mountain and Little Blakely Trail System.

Length: 9 miles.

Directions: Take Scenic 7 Byway, 6 miles north of Jessieville Visitor Center. Turn west on Forest Service Road 11.

Trail Information: The course follows several Forest Service Roads that are open to motorized vehicles. Road signs and Carsonite posts mark the route. Road surface is unpaved.

Site Amenities: Parking is available at trailhead on Forest Service Road 11 and at Deckard Mountain Vista.

Safety: Watch for oncoming traffic. Bicycles, hikers and motorized vehicles share this route. Bring drinking water.

Difficulty Level: Easiest.

Requirements: Obey all posted signs.

Recommended Seasons: Open all year.
