Big Boggy National Wildlife Refuge

Directions: From the Intersection of Highway 60 and FM 521 in Wadsworth, go E on FM 521 for 2.9 miles to Chinquapi Road. Turn right, and continue on Lake Chinquapin Road for 7 miles to Refuge.

Primary Wildlife: The Refuge was established in 1983 to provide habitat for migratory waterfowl and other bird life. The Refuge attracts thousands of ducks and geese to its ponds and potholes.

Habitat: The Refuge consists of 4,100 acres of coastal prairies and salt marshes, has three large saltwater lakes and three freshwater impoundments.

Recreation and Education: The Refuge is closed to public use. Visitors are encouraged to visit the nearby San Bernard and Brazoria National Wildlife Refuges. Land access waterfowl hunting is permitted, in season.

Special Note: The Refuge also includes Dressing Point Island, one of the major rookeries for colonial nesting birds on the Texas Gulf Coast.
