Hike Volcanic Pali Aike
Volcanic terrain can be tough on shoes, but that's no reason to avoid this national park in the southern region of Magallanes, near the Argentine border. Pali Aike is an area of volcanic steppe and lava beds that once supported megafauna like the extinct milodon (a ground sloth). Its network of hiking trails will lead you around to see flocks of wild guanacos, along with foxes and birds like the flightless rhea (the South American equivalent of the ostrich). This area is an arid zone, but the constant high winds and cool temperatures make it a better summer trip.
