The northern regions of India have superb remote-area trekking to tackle on your own or with a group. The fascinating and isolated Malana Valley in Himachal Pradesh is a world away from the bustle of the Indian plains, and the people of the valley have their own distinct customs and culture, incorporating strong Tibetan elements. The standard five-day trek takes in the Chandrakhani Pass at around 12,000 feet, with stunning views of the brooding peak of Deo Tibba at 19,700 feet. The take-off point is Manali.
