Hiking Knots
Two Half Hitches (Quick Release)
By building a quick release knot into you half hitches, you can get the knot undone quickly with little compromise in knot security. This knot can be used for strapping something to the outside of you pack with a quick release built in for easy access.
- Form a bight passing the free end of the rope through the grommet or around the pole.
- Loop the free end around the standing part of the rope, passing it between the loop and the pole.
Repeat the process, placing the second half hitch beyond the first one, away from the grommet or pole. - To create the quick release, pass the free end back through the second hitch just before you cinch the knot tight.
- Tighten the knot by pushing the half hitches together as you pull on the standing part of the rope.
