Sheet Bend Knot
Sheet Bend Knot

This is the simplest and strongest way to tie together two lines of unequal thickness. The knot's name comes not from bed sheets but from its usefulness in tying a sail down.

  • Create a bight in the larger of the two ropes to be joined.
  • Pass the free end of the second rope through the middle of the bight.
  • Wrap the free end around the back of the bight, then pass it over the bight and under the second rope's standing part. Cinch the knot tight
