This is the simplest and strongest way to tie together two lines of unequal thickness. The knot's name comes not from bed sheets but from its usefulness in tying a sail down.
- Create a bight in the larger of the two ropes to be joined.
- Pass the free end of the second rope through the middle of the bight.
- Wrap the free end around the back of the bight, then pass it over the bight and under the second rope's standing part. Cinch the knot tight
