At Home:
20 hard peppermint candies
1/2 cup Kava instant coffee
1/2 Carnation Malted Milk powder

Place the 20 candies in a Ziploc bag. After sealing the bag, gently hammer the candies into small chips. Add the candy chips, coffee powder, and malted milk powder to a new quart-size Ziploc freezer bag for the trail.

On the Trail
1 cup water per serving

Boil 1 cup of water and pour into your mug. Add 3 tablespoons of Lightning Coffee mixture and stir.

About the Authors: Christine and Tim Conners have been hiking together since they began dating. Marriage and four children later, they're still chasing each other down the trail. Chris, a graduate of Outward Bound, is a children's mental health therapist and psychology instructor. Tim is a propulsion engineer specializing in advanced aircraft design.
