Canada

The Canadian Rockies
|
If you really want autumn adventure off the beaten path, head north of the lower 48 for Canada. The incomparable Canadian Rockies abound with memorable hiking trails. Stride through lodgepole pine and wildflower-dotted meadows in Kootenay National Park to Stanley Glacier. Hike from the Paradise Valley Trailhead along Paradise Creek to Lake Annette, a glacier-fed emerald pool at the base of Mount Temple. Or trek through the meadowland of Larch Valley to the shore of Minnestimma Lake. Hike from Takakkaw Falls, one of the tallest in Canada, up forested slopes to Yoho Lake, then descend past waterfalls to Emerald Lake. Paddlers should head straight for British Columbia's Bowron Lakes, a world-famous chain of lakes in the Cariboo Mountains boasting Canada's best lake canoeing.
