Red Buttes Wilderness
Located in the Rogue River and Siskiyou National Forests in Oregon and the Klamath National Forest in California.
The 16,150 acre Red Buttes Wilderness straddles the California-Oregon border in the Siskiyou Mountains from Red Buttes in the east to Sucker Creek Gap in the west. Elevation in the area range from 4,000 to 5,600 feet. The area is characterized by meadows, brush fields, dense forest and rock land. Diverse
landforms provide outstanding scenic values; highly dissected steep slopes, high erosion and unstable
soils. There are six trails in this wilderness area. Higher elevation trails lead into remote canyons with
steep ridges. On clear days you can see Mt. Shasta to the south in California. Deer, bear, bobcat and
other wildlife are abundant. Access to the area is mainly through Oregon.
