Pine Mt. Wilderness

Located in the Prescott and Tonto National Forests in Arizona.

This 20,100-acre wilderness straddles the boundary between the Prescott and Tonto National Forests. Lying along the high Verde River rim, the area stands as an island of tall, green timber, surrounded by desert mountains with hot, dry mesas and deep canyons. The timber is predominantly ponderosa pine.

There are a few trails in pans of the area, but water scarcity limits camping. A great variety of wildlife and plants unfold as the hiker or rider climbs through several life zones en route to the top of Pine Mountain at 6,800 feet. Big game finds shelter in the heavy cover on steep slopes and canyons.
