National Recreation Trails - Pinnell Mountain

The Pinnell Mountain Trail, 27 miles long, traverses a series of alpine ridgetops and is entirely above timberline. The trail is quite steep and rugged in many areas. At least three days should be allowed to hike the entire trail. Day or overnight hiking can be enjoyed from either trailhead. Small emergency shelters are located at MP 10.1 and MP 17.5.

Spectacular views of the White Mountains and the Brooks Range, bountiful wildflowers, the midnight sun, birds and wildlife all await on clear days. Some of the oldest rocks in Alaska are found along the trail.
